So many things to write about and such a terrible gap between postings. The problem is the insinuation of my iPad into my everyday life to the exclusion of the Big Computer. The former is an ok vehicle for posting, the latter, the best. I vow to change.

The New Mexico residency is alive and well and living in my workshop, a riot of the colors of the land and its spirit.
On most mornings during the time at Ghost Ranch, we hiked the myriad trails that offer wildly divergent scenes. A sylvan path leading to a shimmering lake that reflected the hues of reeds, bushes, trees and stone that surrounded like a parfait of grace. A steep hike open Pamela Price Klebaumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12918250568737970054noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6216388065586566065.post-27646627076802227192015-08-02T10:01:00.000-07:002015-08-02T10:01:03.637-07:00metaphors
My magic sandblaster offers me choices -- a crystal clear glossy (predictable) reflective finish, or a muted matte look that suggests an air of mystery. This is a detail of a piece I just sandblasted. The second (matte finish) photo really doesn't capture the depth, where the line recedes into the nether regions, and then reappears as if beckoned by some unknown force. I know, my mind is on Pamela Price Klebaumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12918250568737970054noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6216388065586566065.post-57735591470530076592015-07-30T12:26:00.001-07:002015-07-31T13:53:22.861-07:00Time, the Pedernale mesa and Georgia
Time. A friend.
During the artists' residency in New Mexico last fall, we spent the first six days at Ghost Ranch, smack dab in the middle of the vistas that populated much of Georgia O'Keefe's work. In the distance, the Pedernale mesa was ever present. As we went on various hikes, I would always try to situate myself in relation to it -- it felt like a magnetic force.

This piece was in my recent Proverbs show. Some friends went crazy over it. One of them is gaga over hummingbirds, and said that was the first thing she saw -- the beak is at 2 o'clock -- but the piece had an area in the lower left that my friends didn't like.

We are about a week away from having a fully operational glass studio, so I am playing around with images of my glass to whet my appetite.
The angular piece was made at Pilchuck a year and a half ago, and it sits upon a part of an iceberg piece I made for the "Greenland Diary" show. There's a lot of ice-work yearning to be set free in the glass out there, and I intend to do my best to allow Pamela Price Klebaumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12918250568737970054noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6216388065586566065.post-59454922336047836132015-02-02T12:04:00.000-08:002015-02-02T12:04:10.751-08:00what to do when your workshop is down...
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so by my calculations I have almost three months of fondness coming from readers of this blog.
My hiatus from glass has been caused by the construction of an expanded workshop. I became tool-centric this past year and absolutely needed to add a sandblaster and a wet angle grinder to my bag of tricks. Yippee, we are almost there -- just awaiting arrival of Pamela Price Klebaumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12918250568737970054noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6216388065586566065.post-20701553369147709772014-11-11T09:22:00.004-08:002014-11-11T09:22:55.783-08:00always, for Veteran's Day, Daddy

Ebony Blaze, a fabulous blues singer, is giving a concert this Thursday (the 25th) at Studio Channel Islands Art Center.
She asked me to make some new works (in blue[s], of course) for the reception that will be held that night at the art center.

The exhibit came down yesterday. One of the last visitors was a Navy retiree who had his own fascinating stories to tell. It was really sweet to exchange stories of Navy life from our different perspectives, and he was very interested in the Greenland Diary and the artwork. Lucky me. This show has been full of these kind of stories. The best.

It has been three weeks since the reception. The response has been beyond any I could have imagined, and has been multilayered.
People have reacted to the diary in many ways -- thoughtfully, inquisitively, self-reflectively, emotionally. And those adjectives also describe some of the reactions to the artworks that were inspired by the diary. I have spent much time in reflection, first, in Pamela Price Klebaumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12918250568737970054noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6216388065586566065.post-42412863578065250962014-08-01T10:06:00.000-07:002014-08-01T10:06:08.000-07:00installation, check! Fabulous. Period. The opening reception for the current exhibit of the Art Glass Association of Southern California was yesterday in Carlsbad, a great little town about 30 miles north of my hometown, Coronado. The Front Porch Gallery's presentation of the glass was exquisite, giving each piece a lot of breathing room, and allowing the viewers to see the work up-close-and-personal, as they say.
