Yup, I gotta go with the first one, also--like the lines of the scaffolding and the different paces implied by the vehicles and pedestrians. I LOVE New York!
I always enjoy looking at your photos. The first one certainly captured my eye when I first entered your blog. Compared to the first, the second one seems to have a big "gap" in it. The only benefit I see in the gap is that it enables you to see the graphics within the DKNY logo ... but I still find the first pic more interesting.
I'm not sure it's a matter of better; it depends on what you're after. The first one is a NY street scene with all the miscellany and energy of midtown. You couldn't mistake it for anywhere else in the world. The second one has a strong focal point - the DKNY ad - and no question, your eye goes right to the billboard. This is a much cleaner, less cluttered photo. Less interesting but more focused. Again - depends on your purpose.
