Our late August visit to Lotusland revealed a stark contrast to the blossom-state we witnessed there a few springs ago. Many plants were in retreat. Here, the fading buds of a bromeliad, together with the detritis of its shedding neighbors -- but still, the gift of its startling leaves and their complementary colors...
