concrete elegance

Frank Lloyd Wright served as the consulting architect for the 1929 construction of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix. This concrete block was a major element of the design:


The repeat pattern of the design is both dynamic and elegant. Shadows dance throughout the day.


Here is the design, soaring (kind of looks like the Star Wars stormtroopers, or Darth Vader reincarnate!).


The linearity of that photo reminded me of this sight at the botanical gardens:
