the quilt festival

A stimulating day it was at the Long Beach International Quilt Festival yesterday. Our exhibit "Edges" was super duper, I must say -- 21 quilts inspired by the theme described in the first photo above!

The second photo shows a piece by Carolyn Ryan, which depicts Bridal Veil Falls in Yosemite. And how did Carolyn create it? She painted the entire scene in reverse on fusible web, ironed that to a thin cotton, and attached that to her background fabric in vertical slices.

When viewed as a whole, the mind connects these vertical "edges" to construct a complete tableau. Pretty ingenious, eh?

It was spectacular being able to see the works in the "Masters of the Art Quilt" exhibit and witness virtuosity...and it was also delightful to meet so many people who stopped by the SAQA booth. And I even got to meet Pokey Bolton from Quilting Arts magazine and the Quilting Arts TV show!

I'll post more pictures as I get the artists' permission.
