a new vase, and virtuosity

Here is one of the vases from my November class with Patty Gray. I was playing with more transparency than I have used in earlier vases.

I used cool colors of transparent glass, a lot of clear, and freeform pieces of opaque black to experiment with different thicknesses and shapes of line. After I fused these, I handed the half-inch slab off to master glass blower Ryan Staub, with a drawing of the shape I wanted.

I can't express sufficient accolades for his mastery. Few glass blowers know how to create shapes from fused glass panels, and it is a very challenging process. Ryan's  virtuosity is awe-inspiring.
