rejection, but wait!

I worked feverishly on a triptych that I entered in a very prestigious art quilt show. The piece was rejected. This was the first time I had ever thought I had anything worthy of submission, so that was good. But rejection, not so much.

But I got over it.

The show is at the Visions Art Museum, a wonderful venue that is near and dear to my heart and soul. It is located on the grounds of the former Naval Training Center in San Diego, one of the locales where my dad was stationed in the many years that we lived in Coronado. It's great to go down there, sometimes bittersweet as my folks passed quite a long time ago, but it is my history.

Here's the piece that was rejected. I have never posted it before in full:

                                                                     Fiber Glass

I spent months hand stitching this piece, so much so that it feels a part of me, just like the Naval Training Center feels a part of me. I like that. And, as I said, I am over the rejection, and am happy that I have the triptych. My hope is to be able to show it in conjunction with the vase I made that the triptych "emerged" from -- that will happen some day.

But wait! Here's the great news!

The Visions Art Museum has memberships, and I am one of those members. Periodically, they ask for submissions of pieces for a small show (non-juried; everyone is accepted) to accompany the major exhibit in the museum. One recent one was "Crazy Quilts," and I cut up one of my first art quilts to make a 12" square, the prescribed size.

Well, the Crazy Quilts show is now at Lindbergh Field, well actually, the San Diego International Airport, and some kind soul selected my piece to be featured on the advertisement (first photo, above)!

So there is my work, with "Visions Art Museum" right next to it.

I think this is a good omen.

Well, in this case, the surprise ending certainly did make me perk up mightily! Thank you for the comment.
