a bird in the pond

(second post in a miniseries that began January 2)

...in yesterday's photo, the foreground foliage was purposely in focus, to emphasize the impressive nature of the faraway building across the pond, its reflection adding to its majesty.

In today's photo, the foreground foliage is again in focus, but only because of operator error!

As we continued our hike around the pond, we came upon a heron, balanced on an outcropped log. Afraid that it would depart before I could capture this sight, I took a hasty picture, failing to focus on the bird-of-interest...

Would I be able to take another shot with the bird in focus before it sensed our presence and made a hasty retreat?
