What an overwhelming experience it was to witness how the dyeing methods of the West African Mali people mirror those of their Japanese non-neighbors. Both cultures developed these independently:

In an exhibit at San Francisco's Museum of Craft and Folk Art featuring Mali cloth, these magnificent textiles offer rich color and pattern, and some delightful surprises.
