it's a bird, it's a plane, it's...hollyhocks!!!

We have tried unsuccessfully to grow hollyhocks for four years now. At last, the stately beauties are in full bloom in the front yard!

That is not to say that they are not laden with wily insects that seek to interrupt our viewing party. But the flowers survive, right next to the bird feeders and in this photo, one beautiful yellow visitor...
