sleepless in ventura

Sleep eluded me last night after I received the news that I will have a piece in the quilter's Mecca, Houston, this year!

The quilt is part of a special exhibit, "Edges," curated by Jamie Fingal and Leslie Jenison, that will debut at next month's Long Beach International Quilt Festival.

My quilt is entitled "Uncommon Edges" -- a reference to the 'edges' of glass in the three fused glass portraits that are part of the piece.

An added thrill is that six of my minigroup buddies have quilts in the exhibit as well -- do I hear "roadtrip"?

(The quilt-in-progress postings for "Uncommon Edges" were in February, March and April of this year -- click on the "blog archive" icon in the right hand column to take a look-see!)

Yesterday I posted the beginnings of a kilnformed glass piece for my work based on an image I made in Rayna Gillman's class. Well, my kiln had its own mind and the firing went awry. Here is the resultant mess!

Now I will have to carve another form and try again. I hope that the second time's a charm. But with my good news, this is not the irritant it could have been!

Dear Pam,

Congratulations! I look forward to seeing the exhibit in Long Beach.

The reactions to music on your blog have been strange and excessive, I think. I was just surprised that my computer started playing music to me!

Fabulous piece for Houston. Well deserved and sure to be a crowd pleaser. it's certainly one that I would want to touch -- to see how you mix the glass and fabric.
